Look at the Antarctic from above! This image, from the Landsat Image Mosaic of Antarctica is of Antarctica--anyone want to guess what we are looking at? The entire continent except the South Pole is covered and you can zoom in and out of various locations. For a map nut, it doesn't get any more exciting than this.

Awesome site. Looked for buildings at McMurdo -- and the heros of "Life on the Ice"-- but couldn't find them. Couldn't see any penguins either.
“Antarctica Night” in Ptown was a resounding success, despite the missing computer connections. A lovely gathering of die-hard year-rounders (no wussy Florida "snow birds" here!). Great company --a few teachers, a film maker, some artists. Good wine. Good food (I contributed a vegetarian “chilly” in honor of the polar climate, and also made a mighty fine pie with apples and the last of the Thanksgiving cranberry sauce). Let me know when the technical gliches of the virtual reading get worked out -- everyone wants to do a repeat.
