About Susan Fox Rogers
In the 2004-2005 austral summer, Susan Fox Rogers spent six weeks in the Antarctic as part of the National Science Foundation Antarctic Artists and Writers Program. Based in McMurdo, she also visited the South Pole, several camps in the Dry Va
lleys and Cape Royds on Ross Island.  She is a rock climber, backcountry skier, hiker and, most recently, an avid kayaker.  Her personal adventures have ranged over diverse terrain, such as the American desert, Alaska, and the craggy faces of New York’s Shawangunk Mountains.  Susan is the editor of eleven anthologies, including the acclaimed Solo: On Her Own Adventure, a collection of twenty-two individual journeys by women pedaling across New Zealand, hiking in the Adirondacks, bodyboarding with dolphins off the California Coast, and driving through the northwestern United States. Kirkus Reviews said that Solo’s essays “sparkle with insight into what it means to solo in the great outdoors.” Susan’s writing has appeared most recently in Under the Sun, and in the anthology France: A Love Story. She is at work on a collection of personal essays about the Hudson River from the perspective of six years kayaking the length of the estuary. Susan received her MFA from the University of Arizona. She is a member of  the faculty of Bard College where she teaches creative writing and is co-director of First Year Seminar.
